John has 40 years of experience as a property professional and is a Fellow of the RICS. He started his career through work experience with a firm of Sussex Land Agents before going on to study at and graduate from the College of Estate Management. After extensive travel, his first job was with the Inland Revenue Valuation Office in Brighton followed by private practice in Lewes and London, specialising in retail warehouses. In 1987 he joined a Sussex/Surrey estate agency dealing with professional consultancy and in 1988 left to set up his own practice, John Lytton & Co Ltd. A valuer by training and a landowner by family background, John also has extensive building surveying, landlord and tenant, management and planning experience. As a sitting peer he steered the Party Wall Act 1996 through its parliamentary process in the House of Lords and continues his involvement as a party wall surveyor. He is current chairman of the RICS professional panel dealing with boundaries and party walls which additionally covers rights of light and title issues. John joined Lawrence Foote and Partners in June 2014.
